Dudhsagar Waterfall: Goa’s Majestic ‘Sea of Milk’

Nestled within the lush Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary in South Goa, Dudhsagar Waterfall (meaning “Sea of Milk”) is India’s tallest plunge waterfall, cascading 310 meters into a milky-white pool. Just 60 km from Panaji and 90 km from Agonda Beach, this natural wonder offers adventure, serenity, and breathtaking views.

Why Visit Dudhsagar Waterfall?

  • Spectacular Views: The waterfall’s four-tiered cascade creates a mesmerizing milky-white curtain, especially during monsoon (June–October) when water flow peaks.

  • Adventure Activities: Trek through dense forests or opt for a thrilling jeep safari to reach the base. Swimming in the natural pool is permitted (with caution during monsoon).

  • Wildlife Spotting: The sanctuary is home to langurs, deer, and rare bird species like the black drongo.

  • Unique Train Experience: The Madgaon-Belgaum railway passes near the waterfall, offering passengers a cinematic view from the bridge.

Key Highlights:

  • Jeep Safari: The most popular route (October–May) takes you through muddy trails and streams, starting from Mollem National Park (₹500–₹600 per person).

  • Trekking Routes: Moderate hikes from Castle Rock (14 km) or Kulem (12 km) reward you with panoramic vistas.

  • Legend: A princess once poured milk to hide from a prince, creating the waterfall—a tale adding mystique to the site.

How to Reach Dudhsagar Waterfall?

  • By Car/Scooter: Drive to Mollem National Park (60 km from Panaji) and book a jeep safari.

  • By Train: Alight at Castle Rock or Kulem stations and trek/take a jeep. Note: Trains no longer stop at Dudhsagar station.
